A few days ago, billionaire investor Sir Richard Branson and his company Virgin Galactic unveiled the world’s first commercial rocket space plane, dubbed SpaceShipTwo.

Brought outside the hanger in Mojave, California for the first time, SpaceShipTwo was presented to the public on December 7th, 2009. It’s twice as large as it’s predecessor, SpaceShipOne, and will be available for eager space tourists after a planned 18-month testing phase.

At the moment, tickets for a trip into space cost a relatively cheap $200,000 considering trips aboard the Russian Soyuz spacecraft have costs previous space tourists roughly $20-$35 million. Richard Branson has stated that prices will eventually drop for flights aboard SpaceShipTwo to allow even more people to realize their dreams of going into space.

National Geographic has taken some of the most beautiful pictures year after year. Up until recently, I had boxes and boxes of their magazines. They have taken some of the most iconic pictures ever and each carries it’s own unique story. Whether they’re exploring the depths of our oceans, the vastness of space, or anywhere in between, their cameras are always snapping away, hoping to capture images that inspire people all over the world. If only for a short time, these photos are very humbling and serve as a reminder of the beauty of our planet. When you get a chance, share them with your family and friends.
